Could I replace the strawberry jam in this recipe with finely chopped strawberries?

I'm using this no-bake cheesecake recipe a href="http://www.mccormick.com/Recipes/Desserts/No-Bake-Strawberry-Cheesecake.aspx" rel="nofollow"http://www.mccormick.com/Recipes/Dessert…/a (I currently have no oven access and need to whip something up for a friend) but I'd rather use fresh strawberries than strawberry jam. If I were to very finely dice some strawberries, would I be able to mix them consistently enough throughout the mixture to get a similar effect?
