Will taking AP courses be a detriment when entering university?

No, it won't be a detriment. It may require you to catch up on certain aspects of the course that you may not have covered in AP bio, but it should have prepared you to take the next level of bio, since teachers need to be certified by a college in order to say that it requires what needs to be covered by the course in college terms and for the AP exam.
